About Amy
Amy Grantham was born and raised in southwest Tennessee, growing up on the farms of Hardeman County's small towns. She has been scribbling out pictures since she could grasp a crayon, drawing inspiration from the Sunday newspaper "funny pages" her grandmother saved for her. An elementary school classmate recalls her getting in a little trouble for selling drawings for a dollar a piece in first grade. She doesn't specifically recall the event, but doesn't doubt it. She grew to take up paints, and has done murals for schools and churches near her home, and has sent paintings all over the United States. She has participated in art shows in Bolivar, Middleton, Jackson, and Franklin, Tennessee. Amy has worked at Bolivar Elementary School for 17 years total, and has created art in some form nearly everyday during that time, honing lettering and characters and lines along the way. She has an active role in the school teaching computer classes, producing the yearbook, and keeping BES’s internet presence fresh as the school’s webmaster. Amy became friends with April Pulliam nearly ten years ago, and joined forces with her earlier this year by illustrating two of her books in watercolors. She is currently working on April’s third book that explores Amy’s family home place. When Amy isn’t running around Bolivar Elementary or creating art, she is working on her family’s small farm tending goats, miniature horses, chickens, and one very hungry pig.
